Remnant Nursery

editorial
Landscape and urban design firm Dept. first reached out to us while organizing an award-funded intervention to rescue native plants from a Gulf Coast prairie destined for ‘development’ (i.e. to be paved over to build a gas station, strip mall, or apartment building). Rather than standing idly by, their plan was to step in, save some endemic plants, and organize a pop-up nursery to redistribute them—for free—to Houston residents.

Plan. Prepare. Produce.

To the plant rescue

It's a project close to our hearts, so we were thrilled when Dept. brought us in to document their work. From the get-go, we chatted through mood boards, outlined the visual goals and opportunities, drafted a detailed image list, and put two sessions on the calendar—one in a prairie patch in an undisclosed part of the Gulf Coast and another at their temporary Remnant Nursery pop-up in the heart of Houston, TX.

That’s a wrap

And so our garden grows...

It was an absolute pleasure to be a part of this project. And while the general rule is to avoid bringing work home with you, we nonetheless became proud plant parents to some of the endemic and increasingly endangered plant species Dept. wrangled up.
